Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) showed how merciless batters can be in the T20 format when they notched the highest-ever score in the history of the Indian Premier League. The 287 that SRH scored, against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), eclipsed their own effort of 277 which they scored against Mumbai Indians, barely weeks ago.
SRH rewrote the record books in the most number of sixes hit in the match when they sent 22 balls soaring beyond the ropes. It was one better than what RCB managed to score against Pune Warriors, way back in 2013.
RCB almost returned the favour but fell short by just 25 runs in a match that produced a whopping 549 runs in all—another for the record books for the highest match aggregate.
Here are some of the numbers that make the headlines:
549 - The highest match aggregate in a T20 match. The previous highest of 523 was also scored in the ongoing edition of the IPL in the SRH vs MI match. The third place in the list is 517 runs scored by South Africa and West Indies in 2023.
314 - The highest-ever score in a T20 match. It was scored by Nepal against Mongolia at the Asian Games. SRH’s 287 is the second.
287 - The highest-ever total in the IPL, eclipsing 277 scored by SRH against MI in March 2024.
262 - RCB’s score against SRH is the highest in a losing cause by any team in T20. West Indies held the record earlier when they scored 258/5 against South Africa in 2023.
250 - The first time teams cross the 250-run mark in the IPL. SRH scored 287/3 while RCB scored 262/7
250 - SRH join Surrey (3), Yorkshire (2), Czech Republic (2) and Somerset (2) to have scored 250-plus totals in all T20s multiple times.
81 - The number of fours hit by both SRH and RCB. The effort equals the number of fours hit by South Africa and West Indies in 2023.
50 - All four fast bowlers of RCB conceded 50-plus runs in their bowling effort. Reece Topley (68), Yash Dayal (51), Lockie Ferguson (52) and Vijaykumar Vyshak (64). It is the first-ever instance of four players conceding 50-plus runs in the same innings.
39 - The number of balls Travis Head scored his century in. This is the fourth-fastest in IPL.
38 - The number of sixes hit by both teams. It is the joint-most in any T20 match, equaling the record set by SRH and MI in the ongoing edition of the IPL.
22 - The number of sixes hit by SRH batters. They broke the record held by RCB (21 sixes against Pune Warriors in 2013)
13 - The number of centuries conceded by RCB in the IPL is now the most by any team.
4 - Four fifty-plus partnerships in the entire SRH innings, including a century opening stand.
